About
Tyron Woodley
Tyron “T-Wood” Woodley’s upbringing was both a challenge and a blessing – both contributing to the incredible man he is today.
Tyron was born in St Louis, Missouri into a family of 13 children. Raised primarily by his mother, it was a daily struggle to survive. But working together, he and his tight-knit family not only survived, but also persevered. These early challenges equipped Tyron with the strength, mental toughness, determination and character that make him an unstoppable fighter and individual.
Unfortunately, Tyron road to victory started off on the wrong street. At a time when wrestling was his only refuge, the pressure of negative influences and violence forced him out of his first semester of high school and wrestling. This was a turning point for Tyron. With determination, mental toughness and discipline, he secured a spot on the honor roll every term, received All Conference Honors in football and had a 48-0 wrestling record — winning the 2000 State Wrestling Title.
During his incredibly successful wrestling career at the University of Missouri in Columbia, Tyron was named the first Big 12 Champion in Mizzou’s history and became a two-time All American. Following his amazing wrestling career, Tyron dove right into the world of mixed martial arts. He was successful, right off the bat. His MMA career began with an impressive 7-0 record, with all bouts ending in KO or submission.
Tyron made his professional debut with Strikeforce, in his hometown in 2009 — winning by submission in the first round. Following that victory, he signed a multi-fight deal with Strikeforce, positioning him on the Showtime fighting cards. He launched his career with six consecutive wins. In his most recent victory in 2011, he defeated Paul Daley — making him Strikeforce’s number one welterweight contender.
”It is great to get the respect of your peers and fans, but, at the end of the day, you can tell the character of a fighter if he puts it all on the line, and that’s what I plan to do.”
-Tyron “T-Wood” Woodley
Outside the cage and away from the glare of his competitions, Tyron enjoys sharing his talents and knowledge with others. He’s one of the coaches for MMAthletics, founded by mixed martial arts hall-of-famer Randy Couture and Fox Sports Writer Jay Glazer. He has cross-trained NFL players Marcedes Lewis and Shawne Merriman among others, and has taken something new from every athlete he has encountered. In addition to fighting, Tyron has trained, cornered, or worked out with athletes in every major organization in the world.
He is a member of American Top Team, one of the leading teams in mixed martial arts. And he owns Missouri’s premiere mixed martial arts and family fitness center, American Top Team (ATT) Evolution.
This married father of three sons is also the founder of a youth mentoring program called P5 Protocol, which empowers, mentors, and encourages inner-city male teens. This program is housed in the Jackie Joyner-Kersee Center in East St. Louis, Illinois.
Tyron has positioned himself to be the number one contender for the Strikeforce Welterweight Title. Everything about Tyron Woodley screams this for all to hear: “I Got Next!” Now standing with an undefeated professional record (9-0), Tyron “T-Wood” Woodley has catapulted himself from rising star to a world champion contender. Tyron “T-Wood” Woodley is on the “Road to Victory”.
